The First National Bank of Boston was bought by Fleet, and then Fleet was
bought by Bank of America. I went into a branch in Massachusetts about
10:15 this morning to ask about two Individual Retirement Accounts that my
late mother had there. I was told that the IRA office is now in California, and
they aren’t there until noon our time. It is a big bank. Couldn’t they have
one employee in the IRA office from six a.m. Cal. time? Should I write a
letter to a U.S. senator to request legislation? Not that I imagine I’d
accomplish anything. I suppose there are no laws that require banks to open
in the morning.
FOLLOW-UP to the above: It turns out there is a number that the branch manager could have called, available 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. East Coast time. She obviously misinformed me, and may even have been lying for all I know.
